Why does my system run in the rain?
Every rainy day we receive calls from many of our customers asking why their system is still running even though they have a rain sensor on their system. It is one the most frequently asked questions we encounter. Let me take a quick moment of your time to explain what is happening.
Rain sensors are designed to measure the amount of rainfall in your yard and shut down the operation of your sprinklers once that rainfall reaches a preset amount. It is important to remember that it will not shut the sprinklers off just because it has began to rain. There must be enough rainfall to equal or exceed the amount the sensor has been set for which can be as little as 1/8th" to as much as 1". Do not be concerned if your system waters while it raining because your sensor will prevent it from watering again until all the water from rain and sprinklers has been used by your lawn.
A red light on the face of your controller will indicate that the rain sensor is active. If you wish to water your lawn anyway, there is a switch for the rain sensor marked "active" or "bypass". Set the switch to "bypass" and your system will water regardless of rainfall.
